Fitness is about balance – both physical and mental – not too much, not too little, just enough to make a difference. Rira’s approach is flexible and easy to maintain – her overall well-being is always considered.
Between 2016 and 2017, my body experienced drastic changes during and after my pregnancy.
I gained body fat, my body shape changed and I developed many insecurities about the way I looked. I believe this is what most mothers go through after giving birth.
So I started looking for solutions to regain my strength and confidence by finding ways to improve my physique. Working out and eating healthy was my first stop and it offered me more than what I initially asked for. It became a way of life.
Fitness has helped me hone the basic principles of life: desire, responsibility, accountability, discipline and patience.
With these, I have seen myself move from just thinking about something to taking action and seeing my thoughts materialise. Fitness has fuelled my desire to chase after my potential, and it enables me to live a purposeful and fulfilling life.
I always aim for balance. Not too much, not too little but enough to make a difference.
Fitness fits into my lifestyle and not the other way around. This means my approach is flexible and easy to maintain. And it’s also about my overall well-being. I involve practices that not only benefit me physically but also improve my mental health and emotional state.
I train 4 to 5 days a week.
My training consists mainly of resistance training using bodyweight and free weights. I also enjoy core strength and conditioning training. I also incorporate cardio and flexibility. My training split looks like:
- Lower body – Monday
- Upper body – Tuesday
- Rest – Wednesday
- Lower body – Thursday
- Upper Body – Friday
- Flexibility/Cardio – Sunday
My unusual training secret has to be my desk workouts, especially on my sedentary days at the lab catching up on admin.
Vanilla Biogen Whey Isolate is my favourite Biogen supplement.
I can easily add it to my oats without an undesirable taste. It enriches my oats with protein, which gives me a head start on reaching the daily protein target I need to build muscle.
Winning is a daily habit.
These words remind me to be conscious of what I do on a daily basis to improve the quality of my life and finding happiness in the smallest daily wins.
Self-improvement is the key to unlocking a better life for yourself.
The action behind becoming the better version of yourself encourages the universe to respond by making available to you the resources you need to reach your goals.
