Get to know the Biogen Face Of Fitness Top 6- Rirhandzu Sambo

It wasn’t an easy decision to determine who the top 6 would be in the #BiogenFaceOfFitness2021, but after much deliberation by the judges we now have 6 aspiring fitness models who will embark on their 3 day photoshoot experience, all competing for the cover of Fitness magazine. We caught up with them prior to their big photo shoot experience to get to know them better!

What made you decide to enter the Biogen Face of Fitness?

The competition on its own causes so much growth to anyone who enters and I have had the privilege to experience that, from entering last year. I couldn’t miss another chance to step into growth, build my network, foster new sincere relationships and most of all unleash my potential.

What would you say are you most excited about with regards to the competition?

Honestly, to have made it to Top 6, this is the stage where I didn’t make it last year. Seeing myself relive the moment but with a different outcome this time really brought me so much happiness, fulfilment  and excitement.

Did you ever think that you would make it this far?

Laughing out loud! You think you know but you never know.

What do you hope to achieve through being in the Final 6 of the Biogen Face of Fitness?

I am big about personal development. In order for someone to truly be a blessing to other people they have to be fully functioning in their magic – God given purpose. Being in the final 6 has just opened a whole new world of resources to assist me in striving to reach my fullest potential. And with this, I desire to create something bigger and better. Something beyond me that can  be my contribution towards making this world better than I found it.

Where/When/How did your fitness journey begin?

I gave birth to my daughter in 2017. My body went through dramatic changes. I was looking for a solution to regain the shape and size I had before my pregrancy. So I started working out late 2017. Where my partner would push me to do 100 sit ups and 100 squats every day. It was the most difficult challenge for me. I eventually started exploring other forms of body weight exercises, and it all developed into a way of life.

How do you think fitness has changed your life?

Fitness has helped me hone the basic principles of life. Desire, responsibility, accountability, discipline and patience. With these I have seen myself move from just thoughts of things I wish to do or the person I wish to be and finding practical ways to becoming that person. Really seeing my thoughts materialise. And also, I have become a better person for other people as I am able to help others with what I have learned through fitness.

What are some of your favourite ways to keep healthy and active?

I love performing in front of the mirror. I regularly have a showstopper performance on my Idols SA imaginary stage. And also playing unending games with my daughter keeps me super active and alive. Not to mention shooting content is a sport on its own.

How do you intend to inspire other women to pursue becoming the best version of themselves?

When I look at the people that inspire me, it’s usually those that are living the lifestyle I desire to live. Those that have already overcome the challenges that I face on a day to day and those that use their stories as light to others. I plan to inspire other people the same way.

Through leadership, living the lifestyle, constantly finding ways to do better and be better than who I was yesterday. I know other women can find pieces of themselves through my  story of chasing after my fullest potential, fully functioning in my magic and using fitness as a tool towards living a purposeful and fulfilled life.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time within the fitness industry?

I plan to create long-term relationships with the sponsors for this campaign. As a food scientist, the creation and design of health beverages is in my line of work. I hope to venture more on this opportunity by bringing that aspect into play. Also I am already pursuing my personal training course with HFPA. I want to focus on gaining more knowledge in this field by taking on advanced courses. Not forgetting growing and developing Impro Bodies, which is the fitness brand I run with my partner.

Do you have any other hobbies that you enjoy?

Definitely! Singing and motivational speaking.
