It wasn’t an easy decision to determine who the top 6 would be in the #BiogenFaceOfFitness2021, but after much deliberation by the judges we now have 6 aspiring fitness models who will embark on their 3 day photoshoot experience, all competing for the cover of Fitness magazine. We caught up with them prior to their big photo shoot experience to get to know them better!
What made you decide to enter the Biogen Face Of Fitness?
I saw it as a challenge and a goal to work towards. I’m a goal driven person so deciding to enter the competition at the begging of 2021 gave me something to aspire to.
I also wanted to step out of my comfort zone and the competition gave me the opportunity to develop more of a social media presence and the reason to create online content.
What would you say are you most excited about with regards to the competition?
Firstly I’m excited about meeting new people in the fitness industry who love moving the body as much as I do. I’m excited to network with like-minded women who can inspire and create with me. Secondly I’m excited to grow as a person and challenge myself in my fitness journey. This competition has already pushed and encouraged me in ways I couldn’t imagine. I’m so excited to see how much more I can achieve.
Did you ever think that you would make it this far?
I was determined to do everything I could to make it this far. Every lady that entered had something so unique and special to offer, I knew the competition would be tough. All the support and prayer from my family and friends has brought me here today and I am so honoured and blessed to be in the Top 6.
What do you hope to achieve through being in the Final 6 of the Biogen Face of Fitness?
My hope is to inspire. That’s my biggest WHY for entering and now that I’m in the topic 6 it’s even more vital that I use this platform to encourage, support and motivate those that follow and support me and my fitness journey.
Where/When/How did your fitness journey begin?
My family environment when growing up had always been about fitness and health. I competed in many sports (swimming, athletics, cross country, volleyball, netball, mountain biking and dancing) many of which were at national and international levels. I’d say my real passion for fitness ignited when I was 16 and decided I wanted to dance and perform as a career. It was at this age that I started to understand and listen to my body. I learnt what my body needed mentally, physically and from a nutritional point of view in order to perform my best on stage.
I then developed an interest in stretching, contortion and aerial which has brought a different aspect to my performing and fitness journey.
How do you think fitness has changed your life?
Fitness hasn’t changed my life because it has always been such a huge part of my life. But I can say that it has affected me in many positive ways, I wouldn’t be the dancer, aerialist, performer or person I am today without it.
What are some of your favourite ways to keep healthy and active?
In order to keep myself healthy I like to ensure that I’m eating the correct nutritious foods to keep my body performing at it’s best, whilst maintaining a healthy and balanced relationship with food.
To keep active I enjoy changing up my workout routines, varying from HIIT workouts, Pilates, Strength training, Dancing, Aerial and Contortion/ Stretch training. A good tip to remember is to find exercise and workouts you enjoy. That way it will be easier to maintain a healthy, active and well-balanced lifestyle.
How do you intend to inspire other women to pursue becoming the best version of themselves?
By being authentically myself. I believe nothing shines brighter and inspires others more than a women who remains humble, passionate, enthusiastic and authentic. This was my biggest goal when entering the competition, to inspire by being myself.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time within the fitness industry?
My goal is to continue to spread my passion for dance and movement. I’d love to perform as well as inspire young girls to follow their passions in the performing arts and dancing.
Secondly, I’d love to have a big platform reach to promote the benefits of stretching and mobility training.
Lastly, I’d love to have a facility for women where I can encourage them on a daily basis to achieve their physical goals through, dancing, pilates, movement training and stretching.
Do you have any other hobbies that you enjoy?
I love everything and anything to do with nature. I love painting and listening to educational podcast. My passion for dance is my hobby, I’ll find every excuse to put music on and dance anytime and anywhere.
