We chatted to 2018 Face of Fitness Farai Gomwe

A lot has happened in the two years since Farai took the Face of Fitness 2018 title, we caught up with her to discuss what she’s been up to since the competition.

What have you been up to since the competition?

I have followed the fitness routine that I had when I entered the FOF competition, with my diet changing depending on if I will compete or if I am on a maintenance plan. My training habits have changed this year due to COVID 19, so I have switched to home workouts. I have had an entire career shift from immigration into litigation… it’s a different field of law, but I am working to my absolute core. I also have a puppy now!

Balance has always been my mantra and with global changes, I will be finding a new way to balance my love for fitness, my career and actually having a solid timeout when need be.

What is your favourite memory from the competition?

Experiencing a Fitness Magazine photoshoot! Besides that; the support from Fitness Magazine my family, friends and colleagues throughout the entire journey. It’s amazing to have people you care about support you in what you love, the experience is more special.

What was your biggest takeaway from entering the Face Of Fitness 2018?

I think my biggest takeaway was that I should never have expectations with the things that I enter, or with some of the things I do in life. It makes the journey more enjoyable and it feels less pressurising than when high self-expectations have been created.

What are qualities you want to see in the next FOF winner?

Humility and grace. Many women, and men look up to FOF winners, it’s an amazing achievement, and carrying the title with humility and grace for me are important qualities. We all start somewhere, and people need to be able to relate to that.

How do you feel technology has changed the perception of fitness modelling in the past 2-3 years?

I think technology has opened the door/people’s eyes to the concept of fitness modelling. I sometimes feel it has set the “unrealistic bar” very high, because of social media platforms, it can present unrealistic standards on what a fitness model should always look like. However, the plus side of it is that those same social media platforms, if you are in a good mental headspace, can create communities wherein people have aspirations to change their lifestyles and become fit and healthier

What piece of advice would you give any lady wanting to enter into the 2020 Face of Fitness competition?

Very simple; entering the competition is amazing in itself. It is important to be yourself and not compare yourself to others. Your destiny and journey is your own, but never give up.
