The Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA) has launched distance learning qualification options, providing all students in South Africa with an opportunity to study through this internationally- renowned institution in the field of sport science.
In 2019, the Sports Science Institute of South Africa launched its campus-based, SETA accredited one-year certificate and two-year diploma in personal training and conditioning. Growth continued this year, with the institute running at full capacity as the diploma students entered their second year and SSISA welcomed a new intake of first year students.
Pandemic prompts pivot
The challenges of 2020 also provided SSISA the opportunity to innovate and change.
“In true SSISA spirit, we embraced the notion of remote study and have developed SETA-accredited distance learning options for students in South Africa,” explains Cathy Foden, who is heading up SSISA’s distance learning programme.
A blended model
SSISA’s distance learning qualifications are designed to offer a blended learning approach incorporating remote self-study, digital learning and practical training, which will take place in a localised venue
Through its partners located across the country, SSISA’s distance learning qualifications will enable the student to benefit from the same learning material, additional resources, lecturer presentations, assessments, as well as practical instruction and access to specialist equipment used in our campus-based courses.
“It is critically important that our qualifications are standardised across all modes of delivery, campus-based and distance learning, as well as in all centres in order for our students to leave our institution with knowledge and skills that will set them apart, in what has fast become a competitive industry,” continues Foden.
Find your fit at an open day
