Patience, the missing ingredient to your transformation success

Due to the influence of technology and social media, we live in a society where everything is geared towards instant gratification.

When it comes to weight-loss, this can be problematic because you need to apply patience (along with consistency) to achieve sustainable weight loss and then continue to maintain your new physique.

Here are five ways to help you become more patient.

1. Set realistic goals

One of the best methods to practice patience is by setting realistic goals for yourself. This means taking into consideration factors such as your genes, lifestyle, schedule, likes and dislikes.

By setting realistic, attainable goals that are specific to you, you’ll set yourself up for weight loss success that you’ll be able to maintain.

2. Focus on your own journey

Social media bombards us with transformations, gym selfies, and fitness models, which makes it difficult to not compare our current progress to others who may be a little further along in their transformation.

Sometimes this can act as a motivator, pushing you to be better, but other times this can be a de-motivator, making you impatient and despondent. It’s important to remember that nobody’s weight-loss journey will be the same as we all have different bodys, genes, and approaches.

3. Educate yourself about the results of impatience

People want quick results and often don’t know or worry about what that actually takes, or the cost that is required to achieve them. This impatience can often lead to restrictive diets, over-exercising and quick-fix substances, which means that to maintain your results you’d have to continue with these unhealthy habits. It’s important to educate yourself about the consequences of falling victim to these quick-fixes and whether it’s really worth it.

4. Make a point of enjoying the journey

Some of us become so focused on the end result that we become impatient and end up unhappy once we’ve reached our ‘goal’. It’s important to focus on enjoying your weight-loss journey as a whole and realise that your life is still happening while you’re chasing your goals. Take the time to work on your inner transformation just as much as you work on your outer transformation.

5. Shift your mindset

When starting your transformation journey, one of the first things you need to do is change your mindset. To do that, you need to become aware of your thoughts and the way that you talk to yourself.

Make sure you believe in yourself and speak positivity about yourself and your journey. How you treat yourself on your transformation journey says a lot about your relationship with yourself, so be patient and kind with your body, and results will follow.
