We catch up with 2019 Face Of Fitness Busi

Previous Face Of Fitness winner, Busi, went on to make the top 10 in the Miss SA pagent. We caught up with her to find out how she’s been doing!

How has your life changed since reaching the top 10 of Miss SA?

My life has pretty much become busier because I have actively been trying to seek out opportunities to help me get to the next level of my career. So it’s been super busy.

How do you find motivation and the energy to pursue your passions, your business and still stay active and healthy?

I find motivation in doing different activities. I have recently started hiking and walking. These activities supplement other gym activities especially in times I cannot get to the gym.

Why do you think it is important to have balance?

I think it is important to have balance because without it we can not achieve any of our goals. Our goals take time to be dedicated to them and if we cannot achieve this balance we cannot achieve these goals.

Can you take us through a day in your life?

I am a teacher so my day is hectic, but here it is:

      1. Wake up
      2. Light Exercise and stretching
      3. Prepare breakfast and pack my lunch
      4. Go to bath and dress up
      5. Make my way to work and I use the taxis
      6. I get to work and do a run through while preparing for my lessons
      7. I do my lessons. Then breakfast, lunch, and home go
      8. I knock off and make my way to different meetings
      9. I go home, work out a bit then eat, watch some TV and prepare for tomorrow by choosing my clothes
      10. I make my way to bed

What does your training look like? What kind of training do you believe in and why?

I train 3/4 times a week:

    • Monday- Leg day
    • Tuesday- upper body
    • Wednesday- rest
    • Thursday- Full body Workouts
    • Friday- finish strong, with leg day and 15 minutes for abs

I love weight training but since the Covid outbreak, I have been learning to enjoy home workouts. Home workouts are convenient, they save time by eliminating travel to and from the gym. Your training facility is always available whenever you feel like exercising. Also, it helps with discipline, you have to hold yourself accountable and I’ve done so with the workouts.

How has the pandemic affected your fitness lifestyle?

I think it has affected my life for the better. I have come up with different ways to achieve my fitness priorities. I have gotten into the habit of using different tools at home to make weights and other things. The pandemic has made me innovative.

How do you stay mentally healthy and strong?

I have managed to stay mentally healthy and strong by creating a system that allows me to take time and by working on the things I love and work stuff. I have also taken up yoga and it is relaxing and helps me clear my mind. Being around family also helps a lot as they are always willing to talk and be merrier.

Do you have any fitness plans for 2021?

I have no specific goals however, my goals circulate around maintaining my current weight and eating very healthy in a way that allows me to be less conscious of my body’s changes.

How do you aim to inspire them to follow their dreams?

I aim to inspire them by consistently delivering work that is inspirational and that can be sustainable. For instance, my charity on work and my lifestyle.

Who/what inspires you?

My background is my biggest inspiration, growing up in poverty taught me perseverance and to work even harder to make sure that the generation that comes after me can live comfortably

What is your favourite #strongwomen quote?

“Your superpower is being a woman, wear your femininity on your sleeves.

Who inspires you to be a strong woman?

My mother inspires me, life had thrown her with challenges but she has never given up. She raised us as a single mom and made sure that we never went to bed hungry. When two of my sisters died, she was our shoulder to cry on. One of the greatest lessons learned from her is that life is important you have to respect it.

Do you have a strong woman moment to share with us?

It is when my mom encourages me when I fail or fall short. It is important for all women to support each other. I take those lessons and I offer support to my friends and other females I meet. The moments are endless and this is just one of them.
