The latest race on the local running calendar is the Rundela27 – Long Run To Freedom. The race which will form part of the Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations. The event will be hosted at the Wits Education Campus Cricket Grounds at 27 St Andrews Rd, Parktown. Runners will embark on either a 27km, 13.5km or 5km route through the city of Jo’burg. The number 27 is symbolic of the years Nelson Mandela spent in incarceration. It will navigate landmarks around the city which are dedicated to Madiba’s name and memory. The race is supported by and benefiting The Nelson Mandela Foundation, and is being held in association with Central Gauteng Athletics. For more info or to enter, visit www.rundela.co.za.
