The search for new talent in the fitness industry will have a new look in 2020 following the announcement that leading local supplement brand Biogen will join the Face of Fitness cover model search as the competition’s new title sponsor.
For the past 12 years, the annual Face of Fitness competition has given young, aspiring local fitness models a platform to kickstart and advance their careers in the industry by becoming a recognised influencer and unlock life-changing opportunities.
The competition format has also evolved over time to keep the concept fresh and interesting for readers and entrants, and deliver value to sponsors and partners. The most recent innovation, introduced in 2018, saw all three finalists appear on cover to create more opportunities for these deserving contestants.
The winner, selected based on the support for her cover, the authenticity of her look and story, and her ability to engage, inspire and motivate others, earns the coveted Face of Fitness crown. The title includes roles as a Fitness magazine representative and brand ambassador for the various sponsors during her reign, as well as a supplement product sponsorship and additional prizes.
“The competition has always been about creating a launchpad to success for aspiring young female talent in the health and fitness industry,” explains Fitness editor and publisher, Tanja Schmitz.
“And we’re extremely excited to continue this proud tradition as we start a new chapter in the competition’s story with our new partner.”
The next evolution in this popular industry competition includes a refreshed brand identity with Biogen as the title sponsor.
Launched in 2004, Biogen has grown to become one of the premium wellness brands in South Africa. The extensive Biogen range offers consumers high quality supplements across a wide range of product categories. And the essence of the Face of Fitness cover model search – to find the best new talent – aligns with Biogen’s #BeYourBest brand ethos.
“A Fitness mag cover model is another great example of healthy living and provides the ideal platform for the winner to inspire others.
A fit physique, cultivated by dedication and healthy lifestyles ties in perfectly with our “BE YOUR BEST” motto.
These attributes closely align with our brand ideals and product ranges, which is why we chose to partner with Fitness mag when the opportunity emerged,” explains Brandon Fairweather, General Manager at Biogen.
The competition format has also become a powerful engagement and marketing platform for partner brands, as it creates hype online via social media as the finalists promote their covers to gain public votes and in popular magazines, which retains a string following among passionate gym-goers.
“This model is a powerful and effective means to blend the world of physical print with digital media, which brands and advertisers today require to realise a return on their marketing spend,” adds Tanja.
And the search will soon begin for the next deserving winner. “We’re looking for ladies who make fitness a part central part of their lives, and authentically represent the lifestyle through their social media channels and the way they engage with their followers and promote health and fitness. We’re looking for someone who can inspire and motivate with your words and actions, as much as she does through her photos,” explains Tanja.
As a brand ambassador, the Face of Fitness winner will represent Biogen at various events and on social media, and will appear in advertising and marketing campaigns.
